Agriculture Victoria found bird flu at a Kinross chicken farm. Director Philip Szepe said it was “detected quickly and managed immediately”. The farm killed 100,000s of chickens using gas. This is the 3rd Kinross Farms with bird flu. Guardian Australia thinks about 500,000 chickens died across the 3 sites.
Meg Parkinson is the president of the Victorian Farmers Federation Egg Group. She said this will continue shortages at supermarkets and grocery stores across the nation.
A no go zone is now around the farms. Control orders restrict moving poultry and poultry products. Szepe asks for customers to keep buying eggs. Woolworths has a 2-pack limit on buying eggs in all stores except Western Australia. Shops will sell the chickens bodies for food.
