A trucking company says it has lost almost $10,000 worth of diesel over the past month to thieves siphoning from truck tanks while drivers sleep.
Scott Hannah, owner of Hannah's Haulage in Riverstone, said his trucks were first targeted about a month ago when fuel prices soared due to the war in the Middle East.
"If they have a 20-litre jerry can or a 40 [litre] or a thousand [litre], they just take whatever they can get out of the trucks," he said.
He said drivers were putting in place "extreme" measures like locks on fuel tanks and extra cameras on trucks, but thieves were finding their way around them.
